Tribute to Prof. Anil Kumar Sir
I had the good fortune of interacting with Prof. Anil Kumar for many years as a student in Prashanti Nilayam. He had a distinct habit of asking students & devotees about their whereabouts, how they were doing, and enquire about their parents. This was unique aspect of his personality which he picked up from Swami. He would call everybody around by name and ask about their well-being and enquire about parents.
Having Guntur as our common native place, I had the good fortune of interacting with him from close quarters. My family knew him from 3 generations. Every time I met him, he never forgot to ask me each family member by name.
Sir had demolished his ancestral house and wanted to build a new house. As the construction activity commenced, he injured his backbone and could not pursue monitoring the construction activity. I got involved in the activity of overseeing the construction of the house. Some evenings I used to update him about the construction progress which would be followed by an hour of satsang sessions about Swami and college days. Those days remain memorable and will remain with me lifelong.
As a teacher, Sir mingled with students and had the unique ability to look at the education system from a student’s viewpoint and come down to the level of a young student to interact with us which enabled us to share our views and problems with him.
To express his love for hostel boys, he used to send pickles and sweets to hostel students. He continues to live on in our hearts as a vibrant source of joy and energy in the times of distress on sorrow.
