“People May Not remember what you did or what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

If today, so many of Ruchir sir’s students pour in their respects, it is because of how he made them feel. It was not just his astute knowledge of the subject, or his strict demeanor in the class. It was not just his acts of kindness in the hostel or his tireless efforts behind the scenes for the sports meet. It was not just his oratory skills in the congregation or his encouragement when you were alone. It is the way he behaved and made you realise the importance of lessons of life. It is because he instilled the sense of responsibility in all of us.

I am fortunate enough to know him and spend time with him for 5 years under his tutelage.

When we were in our 3rd year of B.Com hons, the faculty announced that there was a plan to launch a new Masters Course in Brindavan. At that point in time, the choice appeared to be between choosing an established MBA course, with an assortment of eligible electives in Parthi campus, facilitated by experienced faculty for the course versus a new, exploratory integrated masters course in a campus that had been for many years just for under graduation courses. It would have seemed to be a no brainer about the choice to be taken on the face of it.

But as we ran through the gears of our final undergraduate year in Brindavan, we slowly started to notice the tremendous work that was being done by Sir and all the faculty of the commerce department. Not just during the working hours, but during every waking hour, we would see Sir multi-tasking with the current responsibilities and the soon to be launched course’s groundwork. If 20 of us braved to pick up this new, unexplored Masters in Financial Management course, knowing that we were in for the hard grind, it was because we had started to see that he was first putting himself through the same without a word. If he was willing to tirelessly burn himself brightly for a cause, deep within we were not in it alone.

This is just an example of how he made those around him feel. Sir, you have left an imprint in our hearts, not just by words, but by your actions, that we will never forget, and we will strive to be better versions of ourselves as you taught us to be.
