Gautham Narendran
2009 Prasanthi Nilayam
He always says ‘Transformation of the Heart’ is His biggest miracle. I can’t agree more, for, that’s what He did with my life. An arrogant and careless young boy that I was, it was my admission into Muddenahalli campus that opened up my life into an eternal paradise. And I owe it to my mother who introduced me to Sai Baba even when I was a 6-year- old boy. Samithi activities became a part and parcel of my life. My mother was my first Bal Vikas Guru as well as my first Kindergarten teacher. In every sense, I believed in ‘MaatruDevoBhava’.
Till I joined Muddenahalli, BalVikas, Bhajans, Narayana Seva, Medical camps, and other activities were all just another routine to be followed. But my stay at Muddenahalli taught me the real meaning and purpose behind these activities, and I believe each of them is a different means to the same end. In due course of time, I found myself diving into Sai literature and it was hard to resist tears on reading those soul-stirring experiences of His devotees. Gradually, I found Swami taking over my life even without my knowledge!
Muddenahalli was my ticket to Parthi, I would confess. Swami helped me rediscover myself! I started venturing into things, such as Panchavadyam, Tabla, Singing, Acting, Tennis, Background Music, and even Directing (in some cases), which I never thought of before, purely by His Grace! Soon I found myself busy with loads of activities throughout my student days, all of which helped me focus my energy on pleasing Him! At the end of the day, I kept aside only a small portion of time for studies. But I had no regrets, as the ever-merciful Lord always ensured that I secured decent grades. I realized the truth that ‘When we dedicate our time for His work, He takes care of our work too’. He squeezed out the best in me during my student days and taught me time management. Even to this day, He ensures that I juggle between work, Bhajans, family, and band (Rhythmic Energy). And for that loving gesture of His, I am ever grateful.
I had written countless letters to Him. Not even once, had I asked for anything in specific. But our dearest Swami always gave more than what we would ask for. I felt my studies at Parthi would come to an end after my under graduation. But the Lord had different plans. He ‘extended’ my term there. He granted me a lifetime of blessings by choosing to keep me in His institutions for nine years. If only, I had one more chance to live through my student days all over again!
Ultimately, I guess He did whatever He did only to help us realize what He means to us – ‘The Centre of our lives’.
