Swaroop A
2004 Prasanthi Nilayam
It was in 2002 and I was doing MBA at Prasanthi Nilayam. In those days regular conversations with Swami had become a part of life. He often said, “If health is lost, something is lost” and with my ears giving trouble, something seemed to be lost. I visited the General Hospital (GH) and the doctor found that there was a discharge from my ear and something was seriously wrong. After some days of treatment, she speculated that there was a growth in the middle ear (Cholesteatoma) which may need to be operated.
“Cancer cancelled” is something many devotees have heard and experienced from Swami and knowing Him to be the ”Doctor of Doctors’, I took the opportunity to write to Him about the ailment. I would often sit with birthday boys holding a letter trying to tell Swami about the ear problem. Sometimes He would make fun of my long nose – “Soorpanaka, Kosi Chitravathi lo Eseyi” and laugh. He also said talk less everything will be alright.
As my visits frequented, Dr. Devi from GH, who was the ENT specialist, suggested that I get a surgery done as a temporary fix by Dr. Sood who would be coming from Australia. The surgery was to be done in the Bangalore GH. I went to Bangalore and got the treatment done to clear the debris accumulated in the ear. The day I returned to Parthi, Dr. Devi, who was passing by in her car, spotted me and handed over a few Vibhuti packets saying Swami has given it to me, as if she was waiting for me to arrive. For a moment, I began thinking
“How merciful are you, Oh Lord, to think of me as I was away in Bangalore”.
As she said, surgery was a temporary fix and the discharge from my ear continued, and so did my visit and chasing the doctor. One Sunday morning, as I was sitting with the letter in the third block, Swami called me from the stage and with a wave of the hand, outpoured the divine medicine of Vibhuti which He put in my hand. He took a little and applied it over the infected ear. As Prof. Bhagya came to handover a piece of paper to wrap the medicine, Swami took the Vibhuti from my hands and meticulously folded it into a packet all the while mentioning about my ear problem to the professor, sympathizing with my state of health.
The Ocean of Compassion filled my heart with love and my eyes with tears. For the next few days, I ensured that water did not rub away the divine imprint on the ear. The discharge however did not stop immediately, but after two days I saw a vivid dream – Swami was sitting on a chair and I near His feet. He was seriously writing a letter and I asked Him, “What are You writing”? He got annoyed and said, “Ademante? Doctor ku nee operation kosam letter rastunanu.” I replied in protest, “Swami, You should only cure me. Why do I need an operation when You are there?” He gave a deep look. From that morning the discharge stopped; doctors later confirmed that “All is well” and the operation seemed to be unnecessary.
Things remained fine for eight years. The operation became a reality only in 2010, revealing not only the message in the dream. Probably my Karma was postponed? Whatever it was, the care from the Divine Doctor is unmatchable and who will not want to be sick if the Doctor is none other than Narayana Himself as it is rightly said and fortunately experienced, “VaidyoNarayanoHarih”.
