Tribute to Prof. Anil Kumar Sir

Professor Anil Kumar, a beloved mentor and enduring presence at Prashanthi Nilayam, profoundly impacted my life and the lives of countless others. Although I was never a student in his class, like many others, I found myself magnetically drawn by his personality, captivated by his wisdom and the effortless humor he exuded.Prof. Anil Kumar’s remarkable presence of mind and quick wit not only engaged us but also kept Swami enthralled for hours on end.
His exceptional ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life was unmatched. He often encouraged us to embrace life with joy and not succumb to grumpiness, enriching our conversations with humorous and educational anecdotes from his extensive travels across the world. His talent for mimicking accents to resonate with his audiences brought laughter and lightness, enhancing the charm of his narratives.
He had boundless energy and passion for oratory. He would humorously remark that giving him only 30-45 minutes to speak was like giving an idli to King Kong. Even though he had an esteemed role as Swami’s translator, he was accessible to everyone. His playful interactions and clever banters brightened every gathering, making each moment memorable.
Our bond continued to strengthen even after I relocated to Bangalore following my MBA. He remained a figure of immense warmth and familiarity, visiting my hometown for speaking engagements, engaging with my family, and leaving a lasting impression with his gracious and inclusive demeanour. He remembered everyone by name and face, a testament to his genuine care and exceptional memory.
Prof. Anil Kumar is adored among Sai devotees and Swami’s students alike. His legacy as a messenger of Swami’s teachings and as a beacon of happiness endures, inspiring all who knew him to live with laughter and kindness. I am deeply grateful for the profound impact he had on my life, teaching me invaluable lessons in humour, humility, and humanity. His memory continues to inspire and guide me, and his loss is deeply felt. Yet, the joy he brought to our lives remains a comforting and cherished memory, ensuring that his spirit continues to enrich us.
